Erling Haaland International Goals: Norway's Record Scorer by the Numbers
Erling Haaland international goals for Norway: caps, goals per game, year-by-year scoring, the record he broke, 2026 World Cup and qualifying hauls, hat-tricks.

Erling Haaland's international record is the most lopsided part of his career: a small nation, a short list of tournaments, and a scoring rate that no other active forward can match. This page keeps the Norway numbers in one place, updated from the live data behind the site, and puts each of them in context: what the record was before him, how fast he got there, and how a 2026 World Cup finally gave the goals somewhere to go.
The headline numbers
Haaland has 65 goals in 59 caps for Norway, 1.10 per game. He is Norway's all-time leading scorer, their all-time World Cup scorer, and the fastest player this century to 50 international goals. The table below is the summary; the sections that follow explain how each line was built.
| Erling Haaland, Norway senior team | Value |
|---|---|
| Debut | 5 September 2019 v Malta (Euro 2020 qualifier) |
| Caps | 59 |
| Goals | 65 |
| Goals per game | 1.10 |
| Caps per goal | 0.91 |
| Assists | 7 |
| Hat-tricks (3+ goals) | 6 |
| Best calendar year | 17 goals in 2025 |
| World Cups played | 1 |
| World Cup goals | 7 in 5 games |
For comparison, Kylian Mbappé has 67 goals in 107 caps for France, 0.63 per game. The two totals are close; the number of games it took to reach them is not. The full head-to-head is on the international goals per game page.
Norway's all-time record, and how old it was
Before Haaland, Norway's scoring record belonged to Jørgen Juve: 33 goals, set in 1937. It survived the whole post-war era, the 1990s side that reached two World Cups, and every striker Norway produced in between. Haaland passed it on 10 October 2024, aged 24, a little over five years after his debut.
The point is not just that the record fell but how far it has since moved. Juve's mark stood for 87 years at 33; Haaland is now at 65, roughly double it, and still in his mid-twenties. Second place on the list is no longer in sight, and the gap will keep opening for as long as he stays fit.
Year by year
Haaland's international scoring has not been a steady line. It started slowly, with two goalless caps in 2019, then climbed through the Nations League years and exploded once World Cup qualifying began.
| Year | Caps | Goals |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | 2 | 0 |
| 2020 | 5 | 6 |
| 2021 | 8 | 6 |
| 2022 | 8 | 9 |
| 2023 | 6 | 6 |
| 2024 | 10 | 11 |
| 2025 | 9 | 17 |
| 2026 | 11 | 10 |
Two years stand out. 2025 was the qualifying year: 17 goals in 9 caps, nearly two a game, driven by the World Cup qualifying campaign described below. 2026 was the tournament year, with 10 goals in 11 caps including Norway's first World Cup finals since 1998.
Fastest to 50 and 60
Milestone speed is the cleanest way to compare scorers from different eras, because it ignores how long a career lasts and asks only how quickly the goals arrived.
- 50 goals in 46 caps. Haaland reached 50 on 11 October 2025 against Israel, with a hat-trick. That made him the fastest player of the 21st century to 50 international goals and only the sixth man in history to get there in under 50 caps.
- 60 goals in 53 caps. The 60th came on 30 June 2026 against Ivory Coast in the World Cup round of 32, the fastest anyone has reached 60 since Gerd Müller.
For scale, Mbappé has needed 107 caps to reach 67 goals for France. Haaland's pace is closer to the pre-war and 1970s strikers than to anyone playing now.
The 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign
If one stretch of games explains the record, it is the road to the 2026 World Cup. Norway were drawn in UEFA Group I, and Haaland scored in all eight matches: 16 goals in eight games, which equalled Robert Lewandowski's record for a single UEFA qualifying campaign. The headline night was 9 September 2025, when Norway beat Moldova 11-1 and Haaland scored five, the first European man to score five in a World Cup qualifier since Hans Krankl in 1977.
The campaign mattered beyond the numbers. Norway won the group and qualified for their first World Cup since 1998, ending a run of near misses in which Haaland had spent his peak early years with no tournament to play in. He had already been the UEFA Nations League top scorer in 2020-21 and 2022-23; this was the first time the goals changed what Norway could reach.
World Cup 2026
Haaland's first major tournament produced 7 goals in 5 games, a rate of 1.40 per match. He scored twice against Iraq and twice against Senegal in the group, was an unused substitute in the 4-1 defeat to France, then scored in the 2-1 round-of-32 win over Ivory Coast and twice in the 2-1 round-of-16 win over Brazil. Norway's run ended in the quarter-final, 2-1 after extra time to England, their best finish at any World Cup.
Along the way he became the first Norwegian to score in each of his first three World Cup matches, only the sixth player in World Cup history to score twice in each of his first two tournament games, and Norway's all-time leading World Cup scorer. He was named in the FIFA World Cup Dream XI; the Golden Boot went to Mbappé with 10. Mbappé's side of the same tournament is on the Mbappé World Cup stats page.
Hat-tricks for Norway
Haaland has 6 international hat-tricks. The list shows how they spread across competitions rather than clustering against one kind of opponent.
| Date | Opponent | Competition | Goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11 Oct 2020 | Romania | UEFA Nations League | 3 |
| 7 Sep 2021 | Gibraltar | World Cup qualifier | 3 |
| 5 Jun 2024 | Kosovo | Friendly | 3 |
| 17 Nov 2024 | Kazakhstan | UEFA Nations League | 3 |
| 9 Sep 2025 | Moldova | World Cup qualifier | 5 |
| 11 Oct 2025 | Israel | World Cup qualifier | 3 |
Mbappé has 3 for France, including the one in the 2022 World Cup final; the two lists are compared on the international hat-tricks page.
The scoring streak
From the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers through the World Cup round of 16, Haaland scored in 14 consecutive competitive internationals. The streak ended in the quarter-final against England, when he was substituted in extra time without scoring. Within it he also equalled Abdul Ghani Minhat's 1962 record of scoring in 11 consecutive international appearances, a mark that had stood for more than sixty years.
What the numbers do not show
Two honest caveats. First, Norway's opposition in qualifying included Moldova, Israel and Gibraltar, and goals against them count the same as goals against Brazil; a per-game rate does not weight for difficulty. Second, assists: Haaland has only 7 for Norway, because the team is built to deliver the ball to him rather than through him. Mbappé's 38 for France reflect a different job. On goals alone Haaland is the more efficient scorer by a wide margin; on all-round creation he is not, and this page does not claim otherwise.
Verdict
65 goals in 59 caps, 1.10 per game, and every Norwegian scoring record that exists. Haaland has gone from a goalless debut season to double the mark that stood for 87 years, the fastest 50 and 60 of the modern era, a record qualifying campaign and a World Cup quarter-final. The one thing missing from the list is a trophy, and for a country of five million that may stay missing. The goals, at this rate, will not.
