Haaland vs Mbappé hat-tricks

Frequency: Haaland scores them far more often

The raw totals are close, 28 to 25, but they were built on very different sample sizes. Mbappé has played 140 more senior games, so his rate is one hat-trick every 23.5 matches against Haaland's one every 16.0. Put another way, Haaland has needed roughly 68% as many games per hat-trick. The gap holds at club level (one every 17.7 club games for Haaland, 21.9 for Mbappé) and widens for country, where Haaland's 6 hat-tricks in 59 caps compare with Mbappé's 3 in 107. Hat-trick games supply 25.0% of all Haaland's career goals and 18.0% of Mbappé's.

Big hauls

Haaland does not stop at three. 6 of his 28 hat-tricks were four goals or more and 3 were five: the Champions League last-16 game against RB Leipzig in March 2023 (five in 57 minutes, equalling Messi and Luiz Adriano), the FA Cup tie against Luton Town in February 2024 and the World Cup qualifier against Moldova in September 2025, when Norway won 11-1. Mbappé has gone past three 4 times: four against Lyon in 2018, four for France against Kazakhstan in 2021, four in the Champions League against Olympiacos in November 2025, and a five-goal game against amateur side Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France in 2023.

Champions League: Mbappé has more, Haaland has the biggest

Mbappé's 5 Champions League hat-tricks (Club Brugge 2019, Barcelona 2021, Manchester City 2025, Kairat Almaty 2025 and Olympiacos 2025) came in 99 appearances, a rate of one every 19.8 games; two of them, against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in 2021 and against Manchester City in the 2025 play-off round, came in knockout ties against elite opposition. Haaland's 2 in 59 appearances (one every 29.5) are the first-half treble on his competition debut for Salzburg against Genk in September 2019, which no other player has managed, and the five against Leipzig. He has not scored a Champions League hat-trick since.

Current clubs

Haaland scored 12 hat-tricks in his first 207 Manchester City games, one every 17.3 matches, starting with Crystal Palace on 27 August 2022, his fourth Premier League appearance. Four of them came in the 2022/23 treble season alone, equalling the Premier League's single-season record. Mbappé's 6 for Real Madrid in 113 games (one every 18.8) include a Clásico hat-trick in May 2025 and the treble against Manchester City that knocked Haaland's side out of the 2024/25 Champions League on 19 February 2025; it is the only hat-trick either player has scored against the other's team. At PSG Mbappé scored 14 in 308 games, while Haaland's 4 for Dortmund came in 89.

Repeat victims and the famous ones

Haaland has scored hat-tricks twice against Wolfsberger AC and Wolverhampton Wanderers; Mbappé twice against Metz, Lyon and Barcelona. The most consequential hat-trick on either list is Mbappé's in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina, the first in a final since Geoff Hurst in 1966, even though France lost on penalties. Both scored their first senior hat-trick at 17: Mbappé for Monaco against Rennes in the Coupe de la Ligue on 14 December 2016 (17 years 360 days), Haaland for Molde against Brann on 1 July 2018 (17 years 345 days), so Haaland was the younger by 15 days.
